The Interview Issue: Sherrill reflects on roller-coaster first term in Congress, what she would do for business — and life as a working mom trying to home-school her kids through the pandemic

U.S. Rep. Mikie Sherrill’s first two years in Washington came during a Congress that was perhaps unlike any other in our nation’s history. Her class arrived in the middle of a government shutdown (remember that?), went through an impeachment and a national reckoning on racial equity and justice — and it continues to be challenged by a global pandemic and a sitting president who refuses to accept his election defeat. In November, Sherrill was handily elected to a second term as New Jersey’s representative from the 11th Congressional District, which encompasses a lot of Essex and Morris and parts of Passaic and Sussex counties. She said she is eager for the 117th Congress, which will begin Jan. 3. She is hopeful Congress can get a lot done that would directly impact the state. Read More >>

Rep. Sherrill is right: VA chief needs to go | Editorial

“When I heard about this, it sickened me,” Sherrill said. “This summer I celebrated the 30th anniversary of my entrance into the military, and what’s so depressing is that the stories I hear on the Armed Services Committee are the same ones I heard back then — stories of hazing exercises, those are not uncommon. “So to see that the VA secretary engage in victim-shaming, and the VA police investigating the victim before they investigate the perpetrator, that feels like no progress has been made at all in 30 years.” Read More >>

Washington, D.C. – Active duty military face many dangers while serving. In addition to combat other dangers can pose serious health risks, both immediate and long term. One such risk is exposure to toxic burn pits. Burn pits are used by the military to dispose of trash and waste. To honor veterans and make the country stronger, expand the JROTC

We are four veterans—one Navy helicopter pilot who flew missions throughout Europe and the Middle East, and three Marines who served in the same unit during the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. This Veterans Day, after another bitter election, we need to focus on uniting our country and re-instilling a sense of duty that transcends petty partisanship. That is why we are now working together to improve and expand opportunities for more Americans to serve their country—in or out of uniform. Read More >>

I am proud to be a veteran, and I am proud to be a voice for veterans in the U.S. House of Representatives. Veterans Day is a reminder that keeping our promises to our nation’s heroes is an issue all Americans can get behind. Every American, Republican or Democrat, has a sacred responsibility to our veterans, and I, for one, will use this Veterans Day to examine where we can do better. Read More >>

TAPinto Madison: Mikie Sherrill reaches across the aisle

However, the thing which truly sets Mikie Sherrill apart is her ability to reach across the aisle and work with representatives from both parties. I have attended multiple events with Mikie where the audience was a mix of Republicans, Democrats, and Independents. Mikie welcomes and thoughtfully responds to questions from everyone, always demonstrating how well she understands that democracy is at its best when we find places where we can come together. As further testament to her commitment to represent all of us in the eleventh district, Representative Sherrill started the Bipartisan COVID-19 Regional Recover Task Force. This group includes Republicans and Democrats from the Northeast, with a focus on determining how and when we can return to work safely, and to ensure the federal government is providing needed support. There are many people out there, like me, who are tired of the divisive rhetoric that is tearing this country apart. It’s inspiring to have someone representing New Jersey’s 11th congressional district who has no interest in fanning the flames of anger and blame. Whether working to pass a repeal of the SALT deduction cap in the House, or including $1.5 Billion in COVID-19 response legislation for towns and counties in the NJ-11th, Representative Sherrill represents each and every one of us who live here. Mikie Sherrill understands that the only way to move forward is by doing it together. Read More >>

NJ.com: Our 2020 election endorsements: Here’s who we recommend

Rep. Mikie Sherrill, a former Navy helicopter pilot and federal prosecutor, is a centrist that her opponent, Rosemary Becchi, is hopelessly trying to paint as a left-wing radical. Sherrill is a centrist who opposes Medicare for All, but supports expanding Obamacare, and opposes the Green New Deal but supports tough climate change legislation. Becchi is the radical in this race. She would tear up gun safety law, ban abortion and kill Obamacare. Read More >>
