Press Release: 60 Minutes - An update on the Trump impeachment inquiry: Members of Congress weigh in

The representative for New Jersey’s 11th District is a Democrat: Mikie Sherrill.

Scott Pelley: Many Americans are saying, “We just went through two years of this with the Mueller Report. And now we’re gonna do this again?”

Mikie Sherrill: I think what I’m asking for from the American people is faith. Faith in our democratic values. Faith that we can do this, relatively quickly and get to the bottom of this, and protect our democracy.

Press Release: Business Insider: 7 Democratic lawmakers who served in the military and intelligence agencies accuse Trump of ‘flagrant disregard for the law’

  • Seven freshman Democrats who previously served in the US military or with intelligence agencies wrote an op-ed article in the wake of new reports about the whistleblower complaint against President Donald Trump.
  • The seven Democrats wrote that the recent allegations that Trump improperly tried to benefit from his political position, if proved true, crossed the line and would be considered an “impeachable offense.”
  • “Our lives have been defined by national service,” the Democrats said in the article. “We are not career politicians.”
  • “These new allegations are a threat to all we have sworn to protect,” they wrote. “We must preserve the checks and balances envisioned by the Founders and restore the trust of the American people in our government. And that is what we intend to do.”

Press Release: Insider NJ: Sherrill Says Congress Should Address Ukrainian Allegations With ‘All Of The Tools’, Including Articles Of Impeachment

CD11 Representative Mikie Sherrill, who in the recent past has stopped short of joining other Democrats in calling for an impeachment inquiry of President Trump, released a statement regarding the allegations the President asked Ukrainian officials to investigate presidential primary candidate and former VP Joe Biden. In the statement (read below in its entirety), Sherrill says the President is “attempting to ‘fix’ the election” and that Congress should use “all of the tools” at its’ disposal, including impeachment. Sherrill added that she ‘didn’t run for Congress to impeach the President’ but said he is ‘threatening our national security’ and that Congress has constitutional oversight duties.

Sherrill’s statement:

“I began serving my country when I was 18 years old and entered the U.S. Naval Academy. Part of the mission of the Academy is to imbue Midshipmen “with the highest ideals of duty, honor and loyalty … to assume the highest responsibilities of command, citizenship and government.”

I try to follow the lessons I learned there. Lessons of service to my country and to my fellow citizens, being willing to make sacrifices and hard choices when necessary, and knowing that it is never enough to claim that I did something because I was ordered to — I always needed to ensure that what I was doing was just and legal.

I recently spoke to students who were considering attending a military service academy. I reminded them that they were signing up to a lifetime of service, and the Vietnam Veterans that served as the Color Guard that day reminded us all that our service to our community never really ends. When I finished my military service, I went to work as a federal prosecutor for the U.S. Attorney’s Office, and now I am continuing my service in Congress.

We are now faced with accusations from numerous sources that our President attempted to pressure a foreign government to investigate one of his rivals in the next presidential election. In other words, the President of the United States is attempting to “fix” the election.

I think these accusations should be addressed with all of the tools at Congress’ disposal, including articles of impeachment. I did not run for Congress to impeach the President. I ran to make the lives of New Jerseyans better. I will continue to work hard to get rid of the SALT cap, lower healthcare costs, and get shovels in the ground for the Portal Bridge and the Gateway Tunnel. But I have long said that Congress is a co-equal branch of government and has Constitutional oversight duties as well as duties to legislate for Americans. The President of the United States is threatening our national security. I believe it is my responsibility as a Member of Congress to ensure that I protect our country from any and all threats, and that is what I intend to do.”

Press Release: Washington Post - Seven freshman Democrats: These allegations are a threat to all we have sworn to protect

Our lives have been defined by national service. We are not career politicians. We are veterans of the military and of the nation’s defense and intelligence agencies. Our service is rooted in the defense of our country on the front lines of national security.

We have devoted our lives to the service and security of our country, and throughout our careers, we have sworn oaths to defend the Constitution of the United States many times over. Now, we join as a unified group to uphold that oath as we enter uncharted waters and face unprecedented allegations against President Trump.

The president of the United States may have used his position to pressure a foreign country into investigating a political opponent, and he sought to use U.S. taxpayer dollars as leverage to do it. He allegedly sought to use the very security assistance dollars appropriated by Congress to create stability in the world, to help root out corruption and to protect our national security interests, for his own personal gain. These allegations are stunning, both in the national security threat they pose and the potential corruption they represent. We also know that on Sept. 9, the inspector general for the intelligence community notified Congress of a “credible” and “urgent” whistleblower complaint related to national security and potentially involving these allegations. Despite federal law requiring the disclosure of this complaint to Congress, the administration has blocked its release to Congress.

This flagrant disregard for the law cannot stand. To uphold and defend our Constitution, Congress must determine whether the president was indeed willing to use his power and withhold security assistance funds to persuade a foreign country to assist him in an upcoming election.

If these allegations are true, we believe these actions represent an impeachable offense. We do not arrive at this conclusion lightly, and we call on our colleagues in Congress to consider the use of all congressional authorities available to us, including the power of “inherent contempt” and impeachment hearings, to address these new allegations, find the truth and protect our national security.

As members of Congress, we have prioritized delivering for our constituents — remaining steadfast in our focus on health care, infrastructure, economic policy and our communities’ priorities. Yet everything we do harks back to our oaths to defend the country. These new allegations are a threat to all we have sworn to protect. We must preserve the checks and balances envisioned by the Founders and restore the trust of the American people in our government. And that is what we intend to do.

Press Release: Mikie Sherrill Claims Decisive, Historic Win in NJ-11

First Time Candidate Built Powerful Movement for Change

Victory Brought Together Voters From Both Parties in Historically Republican District

“Now is the time for our country to come together.”

Parsippany, NJ— Speaking in front of a packed house of more than 2,000 supporters, Navy veteran, federal prosecutor, mother of four, and first time candidate Mikie Sherrill tonight claimed a decisive, historic victory in the race for Congress in New Jersey’s 11th Congressional District. Assemblyman Jay Webber called Congresswoman-elect Sherrill this evening to concede. Sherrill’s win marks the first time in more than 30 years that a Democrat will represent the 11th District in Congress, and she will now be the second woman in the New Jersey Congressional Delegation. The victory was the culmination of a bipartisan, grassroots movement built over two years in the 11th, driven by voters’ concerns over health care protections, tax changes that leave New Jersey homeowners behind, and gun laws that have left too many firearms in dangerous hands.

“Tonight, we celebrate a historic moment, born of our deep belief in what we have to do to make America what it can be and should be,” said Congresswoman-elect Sherrill. “I swore my first oath to support our country when I was 18 years old, and ever since that day, my confidence in our democracy has never wavered. Out of the cynicism, the distrust, and the attacks on our democratic ideals, we have found what exists inside all of us: the simple truth that we love our country, that we are no longer taking our government of the people, by the people, and for the people for granted. In fact, we are going to do everything in our power to protect it.

“Tomorrow, our work really begins: for health care that doesn’t make you choose between treatment and putting food on the table; for a tax code that makes it possible to raise a family and retire here in New Jersey; for infrastructure that ensures you can work hard and also make it home for dinner; for gun laws that make it safe to go to school, to the movies, and to a church, synagogue, or mosque. Now is the time to face these challenges and rebuild our democracy—to restore the trust in our government and our faith in our country. Now is the time for our country to come together.

“Serving this country has always been the honor of my life, and I pledge to everyone in this district, that when I stand on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives, raise my right hand and once again swear that oath to my country, I will also be swearing an oath to every resident of the 11th District.”

Mike Sherrill is a Naval Academy graduate, Navy veteran and helicopter pilot, former federal prosecutor, mother of four, first-time candidate, and the Congresswoman-elect for New Jersey’s 11th Congressional District.

Press Release: Sherrill Will Fight To Protect Coverage for Pre-existing Conditions, Webber Won’t

Sherrill Joins with Local Family to Highlight Webber’s Record on Pre-existing Condition Coverage

Fairfield, NJ – Over 300,000 residents of New Jersey’s 11th District live with pre-existing conditions. These residents and their families rely on healthcare coverage, guaranteed by the Affordable Care Act. At a time when the Affordable Care Act – specifically coverage for pre-existing conditions – is under constant threat by Congress, it’s more important than ever to elect representatives who will fight to protect the gains in coverage made under the ACA.

Meanwhile, Assemblyman Jay Webber has a record that makes it clear that he won’t support the Affordable Care Act and will stand with the administration on rolling back guaranteed coverage for pre-existing conditions.

Scott Morgan of Denville, New Jersey, is the father of a 2-year-old daughter who was born with a number of heart, lung, and lymphatic issues which require ongoing care from a variety of specialists. He and his wife Elena rely on protections within the Affordable Care Act which congressional leaders have repeatedly attempted to repeal.

“Assemblyman Webber’s record of voting against coverage for pre-existing conditions terrifies us. We rely on protections provided by the Affordable Care Act to maintain our daughter Josie’s healthcare,” said Scott Morgan. “Without it, our family would likely be bankrupted. We are proud supporters of Mikie Sherrill because we know that she’ll stand up to protect coverage for pre-existing conditions and for our daughter Josie.”

“Parents like Scott and Elena shouldn’t have to worry about making the decision between paying their mortgage or paying for healthcare for their child,” said Mikie Sherrill. “Coverage for pre-existing conditions was an essential gain of the Affordable Care Act, and the 300,000 plus residents of the 11th District need someone in office who will work to protect their coverage, not actively try to strip it from them.”

Assemblyman Jay Webber has voted repeatedly against coverage for pre-existing conditions:
In Congress, Mikie Sherrill will work to improve our healthcare system so every American has quality and affordable healthcare. She is committed to strengthening the ACA, protecting coverage for pre-existing conditions, while finding ways to expand care.

Press Release: William Schievella, Former Morris County Undersheriff, Endorses Mikie Sherrill for Congress

Fairfield, NJ—William Schievella, a law enforcement professional with over two decades of experience in Northern New Jersey, announced his endorsement of U.S. Navy veteran and former Assistant U.S. Attorney Mikie Sherrill for New Jersey’s 11th Congressional District.

Schievella served as the Undersheriff and Chief Warrant Officer at the Morris County Sheriff’s Office from 2015 to 2017. Prior to that, he was the Chief of Detectives in the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office from 2007 to 2013. He is currently the Director of Communications & Community Policing in the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office, and the Director of the Police Studies Institute at the College of Saint Elizabeth in Morristown.

“I first met Mikie Sherrill when she was a federal prosecutor and I was instantly impressed by her commitment to service and justice,” said William Schievella. “I know that she will be a fighter for New Jersey and support our police officers and law enforcement officials in the 11th District and beyond. I know that Mikie Sherrill puts the people of this community ahead of any party label, and that’s why I’m proud to endorse her bid for Congress.”

“I’m honored to have William Schievella’s support,” said Mikie Sherrill. “He has served the state of New Jersey for years, including a decade in Morris County. His work has made New Jersey safer, and I hope to work together to continue making our community a better place to live.”

Press Release: Sherrill Stands With Women, Webber Won’t

Fairfield, NJ—In a year in which women across the political spectrum are engaging in the midterm elections at record levels, the 11th District of New Jersey deserves a Representative who will fight to protect and further women’s rights and issues important to women. It is plain to see that Mikie Sherrill is that candidate, and Assemblyman Jay Webber is not.

Assemblyman Webber has shown both disregard and disrespect for the rights of women throughout his time in the State Assembly. His record proves that he will not advocate for women if elected to Congress. This is a stark contrast to Mikie Sherrill, who supports equal pay for equal work, will protect a woman’s right to choose, will fight to strengthen the background check system and keep guns out of the hands of domestic abusers, and will support working families by supporting paid family leave.

“Assemblyman Webber has worked hard to restrict women’s rights and healthcare,” said Mikie Sherrill. “Women make up 51 percent of the 11th District, and they deserve better than a politician who puts his own ideological agenda above their health and well-being. In Congress, I will work to protect women’s hard-won rights and advocate for women’s issues wherever I can.”

Just some of Assemblyman Webber’s votes and statements against women’s rights are as follows:

The contrast in priorities is clear to see:

  • Jay Webber was one of two members of the state legislature to vote against equal pay for equal work. (S104, 2018)

  • Jay Webber repeatedly voted against restoring funding to provide health care services to thousands of women across the state. (S120, 2018) (S2139, 2010) (A3274, 2010)

  • Jay Webber “takes a no-exceptions stance” against a woman’s right to choose. (Insider NJ)

  • Jay Webber repeatedly voted against requiring domestic abusers with restraining orders to surrender guns to law enforcement. (S805, 2016) (A4218, 2015)

  • Jay Webber voted against paid leave for new mothers and people caring for sick family members. (A873, 2008)

Press Release: Sherrill Will Fight To Restore SALT Deduction, Protect Social Security and Medicare; Webber Won’t

Fairfield, NJ—In New Jersey’s 11th District, the congressional tax bill hurts the pocketbooks of our residents and threatens the future of Social Security and Medicare. The average NJ-11 homeowner pays more than $19,000 a year in state and local taxes, nearly double the $10,000 cap recently made permanent by Congress. It’s clear that this cap is a burden, which is why every Congressman from North Jersey voted against the tax plan. And now, congressional leadership has doubled down on using the $1.9 trillion they added to the deficit with the tax bill to justify cuts to Social Security and Medicare.

In spite of these facts, Assemblyman Jay Webber supports the tax plan every chance he gets.

“Assemblyman Jay Webber has made it clear that he does not support easing the tax burden for residents of the 11th District,” said Mikie Sherrill. “In Congress, my top priority will be restoring the full state and local tax deduction and getting the federal deficit under control without cutting earned benefits for our seniors such as Social Security and Medicare. It’s disappointing that Assemblyman Webber refuses to stand up and say that he wants a better plan that will actually help the members of our community.”

Mikie Sherrill is running for Congress to bring new leadership to Washington. She will work to restore the full state and local tax deduction, fight for a better plan for the middle class, and bring New Jersey dollars back to our state. Mikie Sherrill will oppose any budget that would cut or privatize Social Security and Medicare in order to pay for this irresponsible tax bill.

Here are the facts:
Webber: “Likely, I would have supported it.”

Press Release: Mikie Sherrill For NJ-11

Fairfield, NJ—With one week before the election, voters around the 11th Congressional District are taking time to reflect on this election cycle and all that they have heard from the candidates. When taking stock, it’s clear to voters that Mikie Sherrill has been, from the beginning, the only candidate running a positive campaign focused on making life better for the residents of New Jersey’s 11th Congressional District.

“My campaign is focused on what is important for residents of our community, whether it’s restoring the full state and local tax deduction, ensuring quality and affordable healthcare for all, fighting for the critical infrastructure investment New Jersey needs, or safeguarding the rights of all residents in the District,” said Mikie Sherrill. “I plan to bring new leadership to Congress and work across the aisle to make positive change for all in the district.”

Mikie Sherrill is running for Congress in New Jersey’s 11th Congressional District. She is a U.S. Navy veteran, former federal prosecutor, and mother of four who is focused on bringing new leadership to Congress.

Sherrill launched her bid for Congress in May 2017, quickly gaining support from communities across the district. She won the Morris and Sussex county nominating conventions by overwhelming margins, and by the first quarter of 2018 raised $2.3 million dollars. Sherrill won the June Democratic primary with more than 77 percent of the vote.

Press Release: MIKIE SHERRILL AND EMILY CAIN OF EMILY’S LIST RALLY OVER 150 WOMEN TO GET OUT THE VOTE FOR SHERRILL AND LOCAL CANDIDATES

Fairfield, NJ—Today, Mikie Sherrill was joined by Emily Cain, Executive Director of EMILY’s List, women candidates running for local office within the 11th District of New Jersey, and over 150 residents to get out the vote for 11 days ahead of the November 6th election.

“It was wonderful to join with women running for office in New Jersey’s 11th District this morning,” said Emily Cain. “This is a historic year for women seeking office at every level of government, and the women here are no exception. I know that they, along with Mikie Sherrill, will be forces for change in government, and all of us at EMILY’s List are excited to continue our work to elect women up and down the ballot in 11 days.”

“EMILY’s List has been a key part of my campaign since I announced I was running in May 2017,” said Mikie Sherrill. “I’m grateful for their continued support, and so glad that Emily Cain was able to join us today. I left this morning motivated by the incredible women running for office here in the area as well as the women who make up our active volunteer teams. I know that after today, we’re all fired up to get out the vote in the next week before the election.”

Mikie Sherrill is running for Congress in New Jersey’s 11th Congressional District. As a U.S. Navy veteran, former prosecutor, and mother of four, Mikie Sherrill is focused on bringing new leadership to Congress. She will work with Republicans and Democrats to restore the full state and local tax deduction for New Jersey taxpayers, work to fix the Affordable Care Act to bring down health care costs, and focus on creating good paying jobs in New Jersey.

Press Release: Sherrill Statement on Letter Sent to Assemblyman Webber

Fairfield, NJ—Mikie Sherrill released the following statement after a threatening message was sent to Assemblyman Jay Webber’s campaign:

“This is absolutely appalling. No one who decides to run for public office should feel that, by doing so, they are putting their family in danger. I condemn this in the strongest terms and hope law enforcement determines who was behind this and holds them accountable.”

Fairfield, NJ—After the delivery of bombs to elected officials across the country and CNN in New York, Mikie Sherrill released the following statement:

Press Release: Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund Endorses Mikie Sherrill for Congress

Fairfield, NJ—Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund announced their endorsement of U.S. Navy veteran and former Assistant U.S. Attorney Mikie Sherrill for New Jersey’s 11th Congressional District.

“We are proud to support these candidates, who have pledged to put public safety ahead of gun lobby priorities,” said John Feinblatt, President of Everytown for Gun Safety. “The fact that gun sense champions are running strong campaigns in red, blue and purple states is further proof that the political calculus on gun safety has dramatically shifted.”

“These leaders are proof that 2018 is different – across the country, campaigns are keeping gun safety front and center because their voters demand it,” said Shannon Watts, Founder of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America. “Moms Demand Action volunteers will be with them every step of the way to elect leaders who will finally end this crisis.”

“I am grateful for the endorsement of Everytown for Gun Safety,” said Democratic candidate Mikie Sherrill. “I was trained to use guns in the Navy and later worked as a federal prosecutor to keep illegal guns off the streets of New Jersey. I know that guns are a tremendous responsibility and should not be easy to obtain. I deeply appreciate the work Everytown does to increase gun safety, and I’m proud to have their endorsement and to continue working with them to end gun violence.”

Everytown is a movement of 5 million mayors, moms, cops, teachers, survivors, gun owners, and everyday Americans working together to end gun violence and build safer communities.

In Congress, Mikie Sherrill will work to pass common-sense gun safety legislation. She has earned the endorsement of Giffords and of the Brady Campaign to End Gun Violence, and was named a Gun Sense Candidate by Moms Demand Action.

Press Release: Realtors Endorse Mikie Sherrill for Congress

Fairfield, NJ—Today the National Association of Realtors PAC endorsed Mikie Sherrill for Congress in New Jersey’s 11th District.

“Mikie Sherrill understands that homeownership is part of the American Dream,” said Angela Sicoli, Century21 Award Agency, Broker. “In New Jersey, home ownership can grow our economy, fuel job creation, and make our state a destination for those wanting a better quality of life for their families. We are endorsing Mikie Sherrill because she knows how important it is to build a strong economy here in New Jersey that will support home ownership.”

“Our family moved to New Jersey because we wanted to own a home and join a community where our children could thrive,” said Mikie Sherrill. “I want to make sure our communities are strong, and that’s why I’m so committed to bringing down the cost of living, starting with reinstating the full state and local tax deduction that negatively impacts our homeowners. I’m proud to have the endorsement of the Realtors.”

The National Association of Realtors PAC endorses candidates on both sides of the aisle who are dedicated to supporting American homeowners.

New Jersey homeownership has still not recovered from the Great Recession. Since 2008, home ownership in New Jersey has fallen 2.5 percent. The congressional tax hike bill hurts property owners with its $10,000 cap on the state and local tax deduction, and was recently made permanent by Congress.

Press Release: FEMALE STATE LEGISLATORS SLAM ASSEMBLYMAN WEBBER’S HARMFUL RECORD ON WOMEN’S ISSUES

Montclair, NJ—As a career politician in Trenton, Assemblyman Jay Webber has a ten-year history of voting against the women and families of New Jersey. Today Mikie Sherrill, Democratic candidate New Jersey’s 11th Congressional District, joined with women of the State Senate and State Assembly joined today to highlight Assemblyman Jay Webber’s harmful voting record on women’s issues.

“I am honored to stand with the influential women of the state legislature today to talk about why Assemblyman Jay Webber’s actions are harmful for women in our community,” said Mikie Sherrill. “These Senators and Assemblywomen have worked with Assemblyman Webber and seen firsthand a history of speaking and voting against women. I am proud to have their support as we move into the last few weeks of the campaign.”

“I am delighted to stand with Mikie Sherrill today, and I look forward to standing with her in Washington when she takes the oath of office as the newly elected congresswoman from the 11th District,” said Senate Majority Leader Loretta Weinberg (LD-37). “Jay Webber does not believe in gender equality. He has centered his entire career in the New Jersey Legislature on the unequal treatment of women – whether it is access to healthcare or equal pay. His outrageous rhetoric is only outweighed by his atrocious voting record on women’s issues. We need a congresswoman for the 21st century, not a congressman with 19th century values.”

“I am proud to support Mikie Sherrill for Congress because she shares the same common sense gun control beliefs that New Jersey residents do,” said Senator Linda Greenstein (LD-14). “As a former federal prosecutor, she was busy putting violent criminals in jail while her opponent, Assemblyman Jay Webber, was voting to protect domestic violence abusers by voting against a bill 3 times which would have forced those with restraining orders to surrender their guns to police.”

“I have been a representative of the 34th Legislative District, which includes part of the 11th Congressional District, since 1994, as both an Assemblywoman and Senator. Since then, I’ve gotten to know the community very well, and I know that they care deeply about who represents them,” said Senator Nia Gill (LD-34). “Jay Webber’s record of voting against women’s health, equality, and rights is not reflective of what the members of the community want to see in their leaders. We deserve better, and Mikie Sherrill’s commitment to women’s rights, among her other extensive qualifications, make her the right person to represent our community.”

“Now more than ever, we need representatives in Washington D.C. that will fight to protect women’s issues like funding for reproductive health services, equal pay for equal work, and paid family leave,” said Assemblywoman Angela McKnight (LD-31). “Actions speak louder than words and placing politics over people makes one out of touch with the constituents they represent. Mikie Sherrill is a true fighter for CD-11 and the state of New Jersey and I am proud to support her candidacy.”

“I’m proud to support Mikie Sherrill in the race for Congress and know she will be on our side fighting for women in Washington. It is critical to elect Mikie Sherrill on the merits, but additionally the choice could not be clearer as her opponent Jay Webber is wrong for women,” said Assemblywoman Carol Murphy (LD-7). “As a state lawmaker, I’ve seen firsthand exactly how damaging Jay Webber has been for the women of the Garden State. Webber voted to gut women’s healthcare that shuttered healthcare facilities in the state denying prenatal care, cancer screening and preventive care. Webber’s votes spanning nearly a decade time and again ripped healthcare away from women and even cost New Jersey much needed federal matching funds. Earlier this year, Webber was one of only two state legislators to oppose a pay equity law to close the wage gap for New Jersey women. Jay Webber is wrong for women, wrong for New Jersey, and I wholeheartedly support Mikie Sherrill for Congress!”

“Women make up nearly 51% of the United States’ population but comprise less than 20% of the House of Representatives and only 23% of the Senate. It is our job as legislators to ensure that women’s voices are respected, not silenced,” said Assemblywoman Britnee Timberlake (LD-34). “It is my hope that by supporting Mikie Sherrill this Election Day, residents from Congressional District 11 will recognize her passion for women’s rights, equal pay, and equal opportunities.”

“Now more than ever, it is important that the voters send the best possible leadership to Washington and Mikie Sherrill is clearly the best choice to represent New Jersey’s 11th Congressional District,” said Assemblywoman Yvonne Lopez (LD-19). “Mike will be an amazing voice for New Jersey’s women and will stand up for our state as a whole. I encourage the voters of the 11th District to vote Sherrill on November 6th.”

“Mikie Sherrill is the clear choice for Congress when it comes to protecting the issues important to women,” said Assemblywoman Cleopatra Tucker (LD-28). “As the Chair of the Military and Veterans’ Affairs, I know how influential Mikie’s service in the Navy was and how it informs what kind of leader she will be. We need more women and veterans at all levels of government, and Mikie Sherrill is hands-down the right person for the job.”

“Jay Webber has proven based on his record in the Assembly that he is no friend of women’s rights. He’s against equal pay for women and the right to choose,” said Assemblywoman Shanique Speight (LD-29). “Now more than ever do we need someone in Washington DC who represents our values. As a mother of four children, it’s apparent Jay Webber is not that leader.”

Press Release: Sherrill Statement on   Trump-Webber Fundraiser

Fairfield, NJ—Following the announcement of a fundraiser next week for Assemblyman Jay Webber headlined by President Donald Trump, U.S. Navy veteran and former federal prosecutor Mikie Sherrill released the following statement:

“This is what partisanship looks like in its purest form, and Assemblyman Webber is once again telegraphing to the people of this community that he will always put Washington interests over serving the people of New Jersey. In one breath, he says he will stand up for our state, yet in the next, he embraces policies and politicians that hurt New Jersey time and again. He holds rallies with Speaker Paul Ryan, the architect of the SALT deduction cap, and fundraises with Senator Tom Cotton who voted against Superstorm Sandy aid, flood insurance, and is out of touch with New Jersey values.”

“New leadership requires standing up for more than party, and Assemblyman Webber is either unwilling or unable to move beyond his long history of putting his own partisan agenda before the needs of the people of New Jersey.”
